Concussion baseline testing is for athletes who play contact sports and require a baseline in case of a future concussion. Our base line is more complete than the typical baseline which only includes some form of neurocognitive testing. Computerized neuropsychological tests are important but they are not enough because they do not test all areas of the brain that can be involved in a concussion. This is why many post-concussion sufferers continue to have symptoms even though they have passed the neurocognitive testing. Our baseline also tests balance and eye movement function that along with evaluating cortical brain function also evaluates the midline structures of the brain such as the brain stem and cerebellum. These midline structures control:
- Eye movements
- Balance
- Cardiac Function and Breathing
- Emotion
- Digestive Function
- Coordinated Movement
- Blood Flow To The Brain
- Perception Of Body Position In Space
- VNG (Video Nystagmography)
- Saccadometry
- CAPS - Balance testing and Dynamic Posturography
- ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing)

With a concussion, regardless of the direction of the blow of force, you always have a moment of rotation because of the fact that the head is supported by a moveable neck, it is unavoidable. As a result of this injury, the greatest tension is in the central neural structures which cause problems with balance, gait, motor responses, executive function, feedforward, efferent copy, altered function of the frontostriatal system, altered cerebellar feedback and cortical integration.
